This qualification is designed for those who are currently working with children, young people or adults with learning disabilities and want to enhance their skills and knowledge to actively support them as part of their job. This includes but is not limited to Teaching Assistants, social workers, health care assistants, librarians, housing officers, probation staff, community volunteers and charity workers.

In this course, you will learn about learning disabilities from a social, medical, and historical context, and the possible impact of having a family member with a learning disability. You will explore the importance of effective communication through practical exercises, issues around confidentiality, and how multiple conditions and/or disabilities may affect an individual’s life and wellbeing. There is also a unit on autism awareness.

This qualification is intended for professional development. Learners will need to already be working or volunteering in an education, or health and social care setting to fulfil practical competence criteria with the awarding body
